Chevrolet Volt to start out at $41,000?

So Chevrolet is trying to start out the new Volt at $41,000 and some dealerships are marking it up as much as $20,000 on top of that! They say it's due to limited availability but shouldn't the price be regulated so it doesn't get out of control? No one will want it if it costs too much and could make the push for electric fail.

this isn't the only car to draw that kind of markup initially is it?
things will simmer over time, I'm sure.

Economic principles of supply and demand at work. Those willing to pay for the vehicle, will, and those who aren't, won't. If dealers aren't able to move the vehicles they have at the prices they set, they'll come down to the point where more buyers are willing to pay. Dealers aren't in the busines of losing money, but rather in making money.

I seem to remember hearing a while back that there are pretty sweet tax rebates for people who buy an electric car. Basically, they cost more, but you dont buy gas and you get money back at tax time. Not sure if applies to hybrids too.
Necessity is the mother of all invention... and thus, the reverse donut was invented.
