Volvo is pushing its already-impressive security record with the 2013 V40, which replaces both the V30 and the V50 in its brand new lineup. Recently, the car broke security records in a series of crash checks conducted by a European security bureau. Will you be trying to purchase or sell a used or new auto? Unprecedented safety score

Volvo has touted its exceptional safety record for several years, and this week's report from the Euro NCAP (Brand new Vehicle Assessment Program) will do nothing to weaken that reputation. The V40 received great marks, with five stars overall. In some categories, it achieved the highest marks ever recorded by the safety organization.

Thomas Broberg is the senior technical safety adviser at Volvo. He said:

A fantastic result. We are very proud to have one of the world's safest cars and we're taking yet another important step toward our 2020 target -- which nobody should die or be seriously injured in a Volvo.

Tested in four categories

The V40 set brand new records for pedestrian security, at 88 percent, and adult passenger security, at 98 percent. There are only four categories studied, including those two and child protection and security assist.

Broberg continued by highlighting some of the V40's innovative safety benefits:

The new Volvo V40 was launched as the most intelligent and the safest car in its segment, and it is truly packed with active safety systems such as auto brake, Pedestrian Detection to shield pedestrians, Lane Keeping Aid which helps the driver stay within his or her lane, and BLIS which helps the driver detect vehicles in the offset rear 'blind spot.

There is the first-ever exterior airbag for pedestrian protection on the car, and it has whiplash protection for adult passengers.

The Europe NCAP gave the V40 perfect scores for security help technologies. It has a Pedestrian Detection system and City Security to help.

Not the best for children

Kid security was the only area where the V40 testing was not at its highest levels. Child security is an area where Volvo should be working. It states it is working "continuously on improving the already high security level of our cars through ongoing research into the reasons behind road accidents and by gaining in-depth understanding of the outcomes of actual collisions." The automobile only got a 75 percent in that area.

America not getting it

American fans are excited to get the vehicle, particularly with its brand new safety score, but the V40 is not being made available in the country yet. Do not go out and get automobile financing until you hear of its release.
