How does the new Nissan leaf compare to other electric cars?

I haven't heard too much about it yet but Nissan is taking reservations for the first of the Nissan LEAF starting this week! I think it'll be available to purchase in December.

Nissan sold out of preorders for the LEAF in one month!! 13,000 orders already. Hopefully they get more made soon after release! Might be 2012 before they're easily available. I'd like to see how they perform before getting one.

I'm always a little weary of running out and purchasing the very first version of a new product, especially something as expensive as a car with the advanced technology it is supposed to have on it. I want to give them time to work the bugs out!

Looks like the Volt gets 40 miles in a charge but has an on-board generator for longer trips. The Leaf can only go 100 miles at a time so long trips are out. Leaf's cheaper though and would be a good car for short distances or daily commute.
