Tire pressure ratings

ok so, really dumb question....
I know that tire pressure can safely vary a PSI or so BUT, on my cars, I've always gone by the max psi specs from the side of the tires...
on a newer car I recently got, the sticker in the door jam caught my attention and I started going by that spec for that car.

which is right? I could see a valid argument for either. If proper tires are on the wheels/car... I guess both are close enough, right?

Personally I would go with what is on the tire. The sticker on the car door isnt going to change, barring replacement of the door, but over the life of the car it could have many different tires of various quilities and types.
