Here is an interesting conversation.....
This came up earlier today among some coworkers...

"What is a Sports Car"...or, what makes a car a sports car?

They were saying that if it has more than 2 seats, it isn't a sports car.... and to ask insurance companies what they think.
I think that opinion is a bunch of junk... SURE, insurance companies might hit you with a bigger premium if you lack a back seat but that is by FAR the thing that qualifies the car. If that is the case, than a Honda CRX or one of those new Smart cars are sports cars...... uh, not so much. Sure, even Wikipedia notes that a sports car has two seats

How about the Miata, Supra, M Type BMWs, Mustang, camaro, etc.... some auto makers merely throw a back seat in there to be able to say it has one... not because it is truly functional!

so that would mean that this guy.... wouldn't be a sports car.

That's a good question. Do you have a better definition of a Sport's Car that you came up with, Turbo?

I think the "2 seat" definition works at least 90% of the time--anything over 2 seats is not *likely* a sports car. But as you point out 2 seats does not make a sports car either!

Really, Id say a sports car is anything that makes you grin when you hit the gas. It has to be able to keep grip on the road when you take a turn like Andretti. And most importantly, a good burnout. Aslo, rear wheel drive would be nice

IMO anything that goes 0-60 in at least 6 seconds. Otherwise its just a car.

I could agree with that. It has to make noise too! electric cars are cool and all but you cant beat a nice exhaust note IMO

Personally I think its about speed. Good acceleration, good top speed, great handling. All those performance characteristics have to be there...preferably at a light weight as well.

Super vs. GT-R that would be a fun race to watch. Good sports car race.
